Congratulations Judge D’Ambrosio!

I received an email recently from a judge in south Florida. The judge had read my post congratulating Judge Lewis and wanted me to know about a gentleman named Kennie Edwards. He worked at a law firm in West Palm Beach several years ago. The judge told me "You would be hard-pressed to meet a nicer guy or a more professional attorney." He explained that Mr. Edwards was an "unassuming gentleman," a consummate professional.

The following is from the Palm Beach Bar Association website and explains who Mr. Edwards was:

“On September 19, 1996 a horrible tragedy occurred in the workers’ compensation community that most will never forget. An injured worker armed with a shotgun and a handgun burst into a workers’ compensation defense firm in West Palm Beach, Florida. Attorney Kennie Edwards was shot and killed at age 38 leaving behind his pregnant wife and five year old son. The injured worker then shot and killed himself. Following this horrific event the workers’ compensation community established the Kennie Edwards Award which is presented annually to the Workers’ Compensation attorney who best exemplifies those professional qualities admired in Kennie- honesty, integrity, cordiality, good humor, high ethical standards and advocacy tempered by a sense of humility.”

There has been a parade of recipients of the award over the years. Accoring to the Bar site, this includes

“Honorable Timothy Basquill, Jason Goldstone, Alison Schefer, Randy Porcher, Honorable Shelley Punancy, Michael Celeste, Lyle Platt, Michelle Leissle, Charles Williams, Lloyd Findler, Walter Beisler, Art Pumpian, David Rigell, Stan Narkier, Michael McManus, (and) Nicole Hessen.”

I am proud to use this platform to announce that the Kennie Edwards Award in 2015 was presented to Hon. Mary D’Ambrosio of the West Palm Beach District Office.

There are a great many people who strive for excellence in the OJCC, the Bar and the various communities around the state. This evidences a recognition by the Palm Beach County Bar of the contributions of Judge D’Ambrosio.

Congratulations Judge D’Ambrosio!
